I have an idea for you. Maybe I’m crazy but I think this could catch on with most people in most countries. Most people don’t want to see animals suffer. Maybe you can change the attitude and make them proud like I’ll show below.
I lived in a town in Chile that is a vacation spot for people from Santiago. Those people would dump their dogs there every year. Mostly purebreds which shocked me. There are almost no shelters in Chile. So every house has a stray dog in front of it.
The town (15,000 people) decided to spay/neuter them and vaccinate them at the cost of the town. It’s made all the difference. Every person in the town is invested in this. They make a point of telling you how proud they are that the dogs are safe and not full of disease like other towns. Probably bc dog bites are free in Chilean hospitals. Which tells you something.
Where I lived they had two of their own German Shepards that lived inside the gates and they also fed the Beagle and Chihuahua that lived outside them.
Same thing when I was in college in Hawaiii. So many feral cats. Eventually started spaying/neutering etc. The colonies are still there but not growing.
I feel that people in Thailand and around the world would do this too. Everyone wants to find a solution. I’m sure they be as proud of their city as they were in Chile. When I was a kid in the US we had an awful gang of dogs that ran around unchecked and killed all my ducks and so many other things. My cats had so many kittens too. We didn’t know better. Now we do. If I see a free dog now I freak and try to catch it.
Wishing you a speedy recovery mate , it has happened to the best of us! Trying to help and getting bit! Best thing is just keep up with the antibiotics and keep it clean and let it heal properly so that you don’t have issues with movement ect down the track!!! All the best 🙏🥇👍🏽
Oh Niall hope you’re a fast healer you’re doing a wonderful job in very challenging circumstances and your perseverance is incredible and we thank you for that. Am very happy to support by donating monthly and love to see you with the dogs and their lives being changed for the better 👏👏👏
Ouch! Hope you're not too sore. As you say, dogs will be dogs. Despite this one, I love your updates and starting my day with your videos is just the best part of social media! Take care of yourself and thank you for everything.
Hi Niall - what a sore arm you must have! I’m sure it’s very painful and restrictive for you. I’m amazed you haven’t been bitten before. I love dogs but am always wary of ones I don’t know. I love the way you turn a negative event into a positive experience - your ability to do that is truly amazing. But then what you are doing for the street dogs is amazing too. Get better soon my friend x
Awww, poor you but you were trying to do the right thing, problem was as you have pointed out, the doggo was just being protective. He will thank you and be appreciative in time. Hope your wound heals quickly and well done on capturing some of the dogs.
Ouch. Well maybe a wee bit of compulsory rest, though short, is what you needed (if nothing else, then at least it gave you a moment to think and regroup!). Glad it has been fixed and is not too serious.
I'm sorry to hear that you were bitten and hope that you're arm is feeling a bit better soon! Keep fighting the good fight and keep your chin up. Thanks for all that you do for these dogs and thank you for bringing a smile to my face each day.
I took a sharp intake of breath when I first saw that Niall - in all honesty, it was probably going to happen to you one day - but you'll recover, and it's certainly not changed your positivity and your love of those dogs. I love the fact that the culprit is going to get some sausages for his troubles ! We all admire and love what you're doing Niall - hope it heals soon, and you can get back to doing what you do best. In the meantime, rest a while. Much love from Sussex UK xx
Oh no. I’m so sorry. Dog bites are so painful.
