If you are like me then you probably read the news and check the online world these days and see a dark place. Everybody seems to be arguing and there is only doom and gloom.
I find there is only one way to change that and it is by being positive and trying to fix what you can in front of you. With that in mind and to hopefully give you all a much needed happy warm feeling here are some great things happening on our mission to save the street dogs of the world here are some incredible bits of news…
50,000th Dog Sterilised
When I started this mission it quickly became apparent that just feeding dogs or trying to re-home them was not the best long term solution. That was more of a sticky plaster on a heart attack type plan.
Our plan from very early days when I took the first couple of dogs myself was to sterilise street dogs at massive scale and fix the root problem. We’ve just hit a huge milestone…
Over 53,000 dogs sterilised now since we started
Funding the sterilising of 6000 dogs per month on average in 2025
If you take a very conservative number of 10 puppies not being born per dog sterilised we have stopped well over half a million dogs being born into suffering.
Its hugely expensive, massively challenging logistically and very time consuming but nothing is more important. Our aim is to try and ramp this up as fast as we can with our wonderful partners.
We’re Building Tina’s Hospital
After so much planning and a lot of hurdles, things have started moving at great pace on the ground. I shared a walk around video here explaining what is happening but in summary…
We’ve built the road into the hospital
We have poured concrete and foundations for field hospital
Utilities are all in now (electric, water, Wifi etc). This was a huge step
Dogs will be getting treated here within the next 2 months
There is still a long way to go but seeing 20 workmen there every day and trucks arriving with whole areas dug up feels very exciting. Tina is watching on and I think she would be very excited by it all.
Huskies Off To Colder Climates
This week we said goodbye to Bowie and Prince as they headed off to their forever homes in Germany and Wales respectively. We found them back in June in an abandoned villa. It was bad at first when we found Prince had been eating sand and rocks to fill his belly. There was more surprising news to come when Bowie had her 6 wonderful puppies with us (they were all re-homed). Finding them homes in a cooler climate was out next challenge.
There was an extra heartwarming layer to this story that I can now share…
Someone reached out to us and said they weren’t in a position to adopt a dog but they would like to fund a dog’s full adoption costs.
They made the incredible gesture of donating $3000.
This covered all Prince’s tests, pet taxis, flights, documents and his permits etc on arrival.
This felt so utterly heartwarming and generous to me as a donation. A person sponsoring a dog they would never see but giving Prince a great new home. People can be so special, thoughtful and kind.
Multiple Life Saving Operations
Saving any of the individual dogs is never going to completely change the world but for the individual dogs their world has been changed forever. These dogs would not have lived long alone without our help…
Matilda. Is back walking again after being hit by a truck and left for dead
Pepper. You can see in the photo below her growth removed in huge operation
Rolo. Back walking again after having his leg and hip broken
Donut. Crushed by a car and learning how to run again today.
Even though the hospital is still being built we are effectively already operating as one with 22 sick dogs at the land last week. Seeing their lives turnaround gives us all such a lift even when the overall problem can seem so insurmountable.
You Always Have To Find Hope
I’d be lying if I said everything was nice and rosy and positive in our world saving dogs. Myself and Hank feel an emptiness since Alba left us. I see so many sick dogs, human cruelty to animals and suffering on a daily basis.
It would be easy to let it all get to you and just stop. I think the real world can seem like that for many people from all walks of life.
What I wanted to do with this update was show you that not everything is bad in the world. I’m the one writing this but between people who help me in person, people supporting online, vets, partners and people like Prince’s sponsor there is endless good in the world. Even with the street dogs where there is so much bad news and so many challenges I see way more good in people than bad. Thats the part you have to focus on.
Myself and Hank still go up and watch the sunrise every morning and talk with little Alba. We focus on the big wins and the positives and we tell her only about the good we are going to try and do that day. The day doesn’t always pan out how we hope it will but you have to stay positive and keep chipping away.
The sun will always be rising. There is always hope.
Try to be kind to each other as much as possible :)
Big Love
Niall
