Some Wonderful Feel Good Dog News To Start Your Sunday With
The best boys and girls there ever were!
I’ve been on autopilot for the last 10 days since Tina passed. I’m still getting lots done and helping dogs but I just feel very flat and even after big wins I keep asking myself “yeah but so what”.
A totally normal part of grief I guess :(
I always find writing down some of the wins and good news here helps me puts things into some perspective. There are still some great things happening…
McMuffin Is Going To Germany
In many ways she was the early poster child for this mission. The little beagle who was covered in 30 cancerous tumours and hours from death. She’s battled back (even losing an eye in the process) and now is finally well enough to get a forever home. She will be packing her bags and heading to live with a lovely couple in Germany in early October.
I thought long and hard about her and decided that every dog needs their own home. Her new parents have met her and love her and McMuffin is looking forward to some tasty German food.
A Record 225 Dogs Sterilised In August
If I had to choose only one effective thing to be doing with the dogs it would be sterilising. In the month of August I’ve been able to fund 225 operations for dogs in total. If you think that each of those dogs could be responsible for 10-20 puppies each that is 2000-4000 puppies that won’t be born into this world to a life of suffering.
The most exciting thing for me is that I feel like I’m finally starting to see a difference on the ground now as well. There are less new litters popping up. Less emergency calls about puppies. A long way to go as I want to get to 1000s of operations each month but there is so much progress being made with wonderful partners.
Heartfelt Tributes To Tina Pouring In
I can’t quite express how incredible the tributes have all been to Tina. I would suggest watching this video about them. Or just scroll through the hashtag on Twitter or Instagram to see the impact she had.
It doesn’t seem fair to single so few out here but this lovely drawing by Sophie is stunning…
And this little Shelter dog in California called Gizmo got a new home thanks to Tina…
And this little dog called Latte even had his own Tina bandana…
There were 1000s of dogs around the world getting extra walks, treats and belly rubs thanks to Tina. What a legacy to leave.
Dogs Being Saved Every Day - Stitch Is Back Walking
There are now 18 dogs in various states of repair that are having their lives changed. They are in vets, with other volunteers, in foster waiting to travel and 13 of them are at my land.
Many have been saved from life threatening injuries little little Stitch here. He is only 10 months old but was hit by 2 cars in a hit and run. He had to have a huge operation and lots of rehab but he is recovering and even started to walk again. He will be moving in with me soon and looking for his forever home.
65 Dogs Re-homed - Brad Pitt Cleared To Travel To California
Finding good homes for dogs is like winning the lottery for me. The logistics are really hard and often frustrating as we build out the systems but the 65th dog has just been re-homed.
Little Buttons and Num in the photos below will travel to the UK from their fosters on around the 15th September
The big news is that after waiting on his paperwork in Bangkok while in foster, Brad Pitt is now ready to travel to his forever home. He has all his permits and will hit Long Beach, California on the 5th of September.
It’s impossible to re-home all the dogs but what a life it is for the 65 and their new families in both Thailand and around the world.
I hope these little dog stories put a smile on your face. Rereading this and looking at the pictures I can indeed see a massive difference being made at all levels. It would just be nicer to read it with Tina still at my feet but I have to push on and do great things for her legacy including getting her hospital built.
The one thing I am still speechless about is the support for Tina that people have offered in 1000s of different ways. And also to me personally with people checking in on my wellbeing. I can’t get through them all (thinking about Tina too much and seeing all the tributes and kind gestures still makes the eyes moist) but I am beyond grateful. It’s up to me now to make sure I deliver on that goodwill to help other dogs at even bigger scale. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend wherever you are in the world.
Big Love.
Niall
P.S My book about the dogs is coming out this Thursday. You can order it here now. I’m using every single penny I earn to help build Tina’s hospital. A pre order helps massively!
A lovely update and tribute to start my Sunday morning, snuggled in bed with my own rescue Luna and a cuppa. Keep on keeping on Niall, grieve for Tina, as many of us are, look after yourself and your beautiful dogs. You are making a difference. ♥️
So lovely to get update on Brad Pitt. My highlight this week has been seeing Derek and Britney playing and Derek up and about more even going for a walk. So many operations, wow, good news that the impact of that is being noticed at the ground level. I ordered a Tina tote bag so I will never forget her. Thanks for the update. Take care.
