If you follow me on social media you’d be forgiven for thinking it is all bad news for the dogs recently. We’ve taken a lot of very hard knocks.
I can safely say the last couple of months have been among the most challenging in my life, both mentally and physically. The tank has been running on empty for weeks.
Despite that I wanted to share some incredible progress and some massive wins we have been having for the dogs. Things are really ramping up now…
Opening Alba’s Kitchen
Just this week we opened a very special kitchen, which we built in the middle of the jungle from the ground up. I explain in this video how we did it, all in Alba’s memory.
We now provide food for 1250 Dogs daily
We produce between 240-260 KG of food every day. Thats about 600 Lbs a day
We will serve close to half a million meals this year for street dogs
The food is all made using 100% fresh and natural ingredients
We provide the food 100% free of charge to shelters, volunteers and locals who feed street dogs around the island. Putting this into place has taken a huge team effort and I think is it a very fitting legacy for little Alba.
Tina’s Field Hospital
Along with the kitchen the field hospital is now complete. It’s been a huge sprint effort to get the structure ready along with electricity, wiring, plumbing and all the other things we need. But we did it and have a big 10 days coming up…
Our new full time vet starts on the 1st April
The first machines and big equipment are being ordered
Work flows and intake plans are being designed for new patients to be treated
The bigger hospital is also being built alongside this.
Just like the food we provide the service will be 100% free for street dogs in need. This has been a dream since the moment we lost Tina and she is buried just behind it and the yellow flowers provide a peaceful surrounding. Lots of dogs lives will be saved and improved here.
Getting Battered With Bad News
I didn’t want to share the bad news at the start of this update. I wanted to show all the amazing things happening to act as a counter balance. I find focusing on the big wins is the only way to stay sane and push on.
In the last few weeks we’ve seen so much suffering
Three different poisonings. The latest one was just yesterday
A dog called Mangosteen was shot. We saved his life
Donut and Paddy sadly passed away with us on the land
Big Mac is in the very late stages of his life. Some very hard decisions.
There are many other life or death cases like Maria, Panda and Muffin
To be honest I share only a small fraction of the truly painful stuff we see. I’ve felt that the first 3 months of 2025 have been among the most challenging I’ve ever faced with the street dogs. With so much more reach within the community and a larger team we are really starting to see a wider range of suffering.
In one way it is good because we find way more cases but in another it is just so hard mentally for us all.
Wins Are Coming At Massive Scale Now
While we see so much more suffering we are also building a team and have partners who are helping save dogs in huge numbers.
We have already funded over 20,000 sterilization operations in under 3 months this year
This means we have stopped over a quarter of a million potential puppies being born into suffering
Dogs re-homed in 7 different countries (Thailand, USA, Spain, Ireland, Germany, Wales and Scotland) in the first 3 months of this year.
Ireland, England And USA Visits
The scale is getting quite terrifying if I am honest. There are so many people and so many costs and logistics involved now. Thats why I need to raise awareness and spread the word even further about street dogs. Its not what I love doing but it is essential.
I spent the tail end of last year writing a book which features Tina and my mission to save the dogs. I absolutely poured my heart and soul into it. Every single penny I make goes to Happy Doggo and the mission to help the dogs. It comes out on the 8th May. You can pre-order it here which helps a lot!
To help promote the book I am doing a series of events.
There are a few tickets left here…
Ireland Tickets here for 10th May here (Includes signed book)
London and Manchester tickets here.
I’ll be doing something in the USA so news on that soon.
I’d Be Lying If I Said This Was Easy
Helping the street dogs takes a massive mental toll not just on me but on all the people who help me. Seeing dogs struggle as they die from poisoning or arriving to the aftermath of a dog being shot is something that will never leave you.
There are absolutely times where you feel like quitting. The cruelty and pain can just be too much. One huge benefit of writing these updates is that I can see all the positive impact we are having, by zooming out.
These dogs need us and for that reason I will push on faster, be braver with big decisions and never stop until the day I die.
One thing I can never say often enough is thank you to all of you who follow. My DMs and comments are always full of kindness, positivity and encouragement. People support in so many ways and we wouldn’t be able to do even 1% of what we do if it were not for the support. I can’t even begin to explain the impact your support has on me and the the dogs.
It’s been hard lately but I think we are really starting to make a much bigger difference than even 2024. I can feel it.
Have a lovely Sunday wherever you are in the world.
Big Love
Niall

Your message yesterday was so rich that I actually watched it again and made notes because I wanted to communicate clearly. Two days is more of the same. The first thing that comes to mind is that flowers are not stupid! They honor the recipient, and Alba's kitchen is one hell of a recipient. I just want to say that you are doing something very brave. The highs must be so high, and the lows must be so low. I'm grateful that you have the brains and balls to do what you're doing. Rock on Niall. So many of us are with you, and i'm sure there will be even more of us to help you carry your mission.

Hi Niall, it does seem to be a rollercoaster ride at the moment but even those dogs you can’t save have had their final days treated with dignity & kindness. Your work is truly amazing & you have a fantastic team supporting you. Lean on them more to preserve your mental health. 💕
